The Van Gogh Experience

This time the students of the 6th grade had the oppportunity to experience English learning with the aid of Art. Taking the chance of visiting the Van Gogh Alive excibition in the premises of the International Fair of Thessaloniki,

we talked about the life and work of the famous painter in advance. We looked at and discussed about some of his most famous paintings and we noticed the way his state of mind and emotions affected his art.

 During our visit, the students were informed by the guide about the 4 different periods in Van Gogh's personal life and  artistic process and were then exposed to the magnitude of his paintings in a 3-d perspective.

In the next 2 teaching hours the students were given a worksheet and were asked to reproduce one of his most famous paintings, the "Starry Night". The results were surprisingly differentiated according  to each student's artistic skills, willingness to be in the painter's shoes  and their  personal touch. For their cooperation, they took part in a draw and the lucky one was awarded a nice bookmark. Above all, both the students and their English teacher enjoyed it .
